List of L&YR 4mm locomotives: RTR and kits
Although Hall Royd Junction: The Model is set in the 1966-68 time frame, its Lanky origins sometimes creep into the selection of loco types.
The Bachmann Ready-to-Run 2-4-2T was a 'no brainer'; and many years ago I was given a Dapol 0-4-0ST 'Pug' as a leaving present. A Cotswold long-bunker kit made up as 50850 was a 'no-brainer' on eBay some years ago - its last duties were at Southport on carriage shunting duties in 1961 when I saw it. And then some years ago an unmade Cotswold large boilered 0-8-0 turned-up. Although well out of period, it does the odd turn proudly showing its BR number, but with LMS still on the tender.
This is all slippery slope stuff, because I eventually bought Barry Lanes' excellent grounder on L&YR locos, and I started to appreciate the various design strands and developments, and particularly those locos that made it into the BR era.
The obvious missing loco from the current model scene is the Class 27 0-6-0 tender loco, and it was attempting to track down surviving unmade kits of it has led to the compilation of this list. Any additions or amendments, please email me.
Of note is the availability of a number of items via the 3D printing Shapeways site. These include the Class 27 loco and tender, and also LYR Bury and Class 502 LMS Southport electric stock. My initial take on this was the relative high prices, but this seems to be a reflection of the technology rather than suppliers charging inflated prices. Those concerned about Brexit should buy now, as the site works in Euros.
