Gauxholme Viaduct (No. 2) Rochdale Canal Bridge 102

Network Rail describe the famous wrought iron bridge over the Rochdale Canal as a 'viaduct'. A study of the structure reveals it consists of the wrought iron span, plus two stone arches at the Leeds end of the structure.

The structure, and its companion to the south, were the subject of a model railway constructed by the Rochdale Model Railway Group, and described in some detail in the January 1988 'Railway Modeller'. In the mid-1980s the layout travelled all over the country to shows but was retired in the early 90’s and is currently owned by a club member, Gerry Ogden. The layout still exists today.
